Health Alert: Toxic Cheap Toothpaste

baby brushing teeth
Tainted Chinese toothpaste may
be dangerous to children.

Cheap Chinese toothpaste containing antifreeze ingredient.

When I about this FDA warning concerning toothpaste made in China, I was interested to see why, in this particular case, the FDA stepped in and protected the American public. It seems that it may be more political than oversight in perhaps attempting to embarrass the Chinese government. I guess this shouldn’t surprise me since the Bush administration uses the American people as guinea pigs for unsafe products. What’s so fascinating about this case is that it wasn’t the FDA who inspected and found this unsafe product, it was an alert consumer in Panama who noticed that diethylene glycol was listed as an ingredient in the Chinese toothpaste. This was after over 100 deaths were reported in Panama due to the Panamanian government inadvertently mixing the poison made in China into 260,000 bottles of cold medicine. So, how did the FDA get involved, and what does China have to say about it? It’s enough to make you sick — literally.

Health Alert: Toxins, Not How Much But When

beautiful baby
Look into my eyes.

When you have about 200 toxicologists, pediatricians, epidemiologists and other experts who get together and declare that exposure to common chemicals makes babies more likely to develop an array of health problems later in life, wouldn’t you think our governmental agencies and industry groups would be concerned? Well, no, they aren’t. Why? Because particularly in the United States, they said there is little or no human evidence to support concerns about toxic residue in air, water, food and consumer products. Yet as a nation, we are seeing more asthma, allergies, respiratory illness, confusing and alarming increases in autism, and other behavioral disorders like ADD and ADHD. What is it going to take for these governmental agencies and industries to begin to revise regulations and procedures that would take this into account? With profit and big business interests more important than human health, I don’t see these issues getting any attention any time soon. So, what’s the story?

Health Alert: Popcorn Chemical May Cause Cancer

popcorn.jpgIf you love popcorn as much as I do, you may want to pay attention to the latest news regarding the danger lurking in your popcorn. I know, I know. This is almost as sacred as apple pie. No one should mess with your popcorn. But alas, science is now revealing that popcorn may be exposing you to dangerous levels of toxic chemicals that can lead to cancer, and this time it isn’t the trans fats. What can you do about it? Well…

Health Alert: Toxic Lead in Baby Products!

babybib.jpgWell, if it wasn’t bad enough having lead in kids’ lunch boxes, now it’s in their bibs. What’s next? Baby’s teething rings? What is so unusual about this story is that if it weren’t for a grandmother’s concern for her grandchildren, Walmart may still be selling these lead-filled baby bibs. How did a grandmother from a suburban village in Mount Prospect, IL, get Wal-Mart’s attention to this issue and actually get them to do something about it?

Are Women Taught to be Leaders in Our Society?

femaleleader.jpgAs I was writing the article “Americans Are Neurotic Dogs Without an Alpha”, I realized that women are not taught to be leaders in today’s society. Why? As someone who is all about empowerment, this simple, little question was bothering me. When I think of the rare women in leadership positions today, I think of women that are overbearing, manipulative and even well… bitchy. I am not being judgmental, I am just being observant, and I definitely don’t agree with the double standard either. Men that act the same are just as bad.

No Child Left Behind: Is It Doing Any Good?

girlinclass.jpgWe all know about the unrelenting meddling of the Neo-cons in aggressively promoting their brand of democracy to foreign nations, but when it comes to education, their meddling has gone too far. The effects of their “No Child Left Behind” (NCLB) policy sounds good on the outside, but when you consider where the slogan comes from, it has no place in our children’s classroom. Yes, this is a military slogan wherein the battle cry on the field of war for a fallen comrade is “leave no man behind”, but we are talking about our children here, not fallen soldiers.

Are Body Care Products Making You Sick?

washing.jpgI feel my job here at Blog4Brains not only involves informing and entertaining you regarding the ridiculous darkside of politics and and government, but exposing outright dishonesty and danger in consumer products. I have written articles about lead in lunchboxes, mercury in our air and water, flame retardants and industrial platicizers, and now it’s the unbelievable and unregulated dangers hiding in your shampoo, body wash and hand lotion.

Online Funerals: Has The Internet Gone Too Far?

graves.jpgI guess in the world of the internet anything is possible, but “funerals online”? I would not have thought that anything as personal as a funeral would ever work on the internet. But it is and is steadily growing. There is funeralcast.com, and World Wide Cemetery (www.cemetery.org) which both offer online webcast of services. And, here’s the most outrageous internet offering… there is a website called SeeMeRot.com that purports to offer a “coffin cam”. It seems it’s a hoax, but someone came up with the idea. And, with the way our society seems to focus on the macabre, it could happen. The new development though on the web, in addition to the webcast of services, is a service that offers a whole new creative way to deal with the departed.

More Rights Violations — HPV Vaccine Mandated in Texas

rick-perry.jpgAs per the Washington Post, an executive Order was signed by Governor Rick Perry in Texas last week that mandates all girls entering the 6th grade be vaccinated for HPV. For any of those who may not know, HPV is the human papillomavirus which studies have shown may cause cervical cancer. What is shocking about this is that by employing an executive order, Gov. Perry sidestepped opposition in the Legislature, and, in effect, stifled any public debate about this issue.

Why I Love Dogs

dogs.jpgVisualize life…warmth, heartbeat, energy, motion, emotion. These are all the things that make us feel ‘alive’ and remind us of our unique position in the universe. We are live, conscious beings, yearning for connection with other live, conscious beings. Our passion for that simple touch of the hand or that pat on the shoulder, makes all our struggle and pain worthwhile. This simple connection binds us together and allows us to once again realize that we are all in this together. Perhaps, even as great philosophers or prophets have so aptly stated, we are One.
