More on the Dying Honeybee Situation

notible article

Snipped from alternet.org.

There has been much discussion and debate about the causes of the disappearance of America’s honeybee. No one can seem to come up with a solid explanation basically because the bees just simply disappear never to return to the hive. No crime scene, no motive, and no evidence means no suspects excepts theories. Some researchers speculated that cell phone radiation may be interfering with their ability to navigate and find their way back to the hive. Others speculated that the deaths were due to tiny mites or bugs. Then others thought that it was due to a nasty virus that plagues honeybee colonies. Well, now we can add another speculation to the list…they are just plain worn out, tired, exhausted and just don’t want to do it anymore. Just as can happen to an overworked , modern-day American worker, in commercializing the honeybee in “honeybee factory farms”, the honeybee may have been pushed to their limits. Have we worked them to death? What have we done to our poor honey bee?

Health Alert: Drugs in our Water Supply?

safety.jpg

Okay, folks, anyone who has been following this blog is familiar with my Health Alerts that warn the public about safety and health concerns that exist in our environment today. If you would like to check them out, just click on Health Alerts in our archive section. You will be amazed at the volume of warnings that exist today. This one pretty much takes the cake though. This time you have to worry about antidepressants, birth control pills, pain killers or just about any other drug that gets flushed down the toilet showing up in our drinking water. It seems that our water supply systems are not designed to filter out the myriad assortment of drugs that people mindlessly dispose of when they are out of date or don’t need anymore. I guess this could also include mind altering drugs for which illicit users are known to flush at the first sign of trouble. So, how is it that we are finding drugs in our water supply and what should you do about it?

The Link Between Autism and Environmental Toxins

autism.jpg

I don’t know how many times I have watched documentaries or read articles about autism that reported that “we just don’t know what causes it”. When there exists a frightening statistic that 1 out of 150 children are being diagnosed with some type of autism today, there should be alarm bells going off. I am disgusted by our government’s current lack of attention to this urgent health care crisis. What limited research that is being done today is just beginning to unravel the mysteries of this daunting childhood affliction now termed “Autism Spectrum Disorder”. Scientists are just beginning to find out that there may be a link between autism and a number of immune and neurological disorders to environmental toxins. This would account for the wide spectrum of autism symptoms that children exhibit due to the array of molecular dialogue that occurs between our genes and the environment. This to me is pretty frightening considering the vast amount of pollution that exists in our environment. Just what exactly is going on between our genes and the never ending exposure to environmental toxins?

New Report: Accelerated Climate Catastrophe

notible article

Snipped from AlterNet.org.

Do you feel that if one is constantly presented with bad news that after a while the person becomes numb to the effects of the bad news? Can a whole society become numb to catastrophic predictions involving climate change? I feel we have reached the tipping point in our news saturation of global warming and its dire effects and are experiencing sensory overload. We have heard so much devastating news about our future that we can’t even seem to process it anymore much less respond. So, when a news release exposes even more devastating discoveries that compounds the global threat of climate change, no one even blinks an eye. What will have to happen before the global society takes measures to seriously address this threat? There was news today reported in AlterNet.org that certainly should make all of us wake up and do something.

Health Alert: What’s Behind Genetically Modified Food?

35525.jpg
Yummy, cloned corn!

If you don’t know what genetically engineered food is then it’s time you learn. I thought it just meant that it was altered somehow (innocuously) to make food better. But after reading up on the subject, I am sad to report that it has more to do with making a better profit than making better food. When over three fourths of processed food is genetically engineered, we need to not only learn what it is but start speaking up regarding our concern for what it is doing to our food supply and us. Again, the consumer is at the bottom of the list of priorities when it comes to what Agribusiness is up to. You may be surprised to learn what genetic engineering means to our health, the environment and the future of agriculture.

Health Alert: Beauty Products’ Five Pound Body Burden

blackgirlmakeup.jpg
What are you really
putting on your face?

Is our dangerous obsession with beauty more than skin deep?

With women slathering over twenty different beauty products on their face and body every day, it is no wonder that they are under a constant barrage of chemicals. What is alarming today is that we rely too much on the government to keep us safe from dangerous chemicals, so we buy anything off the shelf that promises to make us smoother, cleaner, fresher, and wrinkle-free. But what we are getting instead is a five pound burden of chemicals that we absorb through our skin every year. Many of these chemicals have already proven to be toxic. This article is intended to make your journey through the beauty aisle more of an informed quest for safe products instead of a guinea pig for untested beauty potions.

10 Year Olds & Toxic Accumulation

childsleeping.jpg
Our kids may be more
affected by toxins than we think.

New finding show young children with heavy toxic burdens

Would you believe that right now your body, the one you have nurtured, fed and taken care of for years, (and I might say, the only one you have), may contain up to 40 toxic chemicals? And, if you have children, even your ten-year-old may harbor as many, if not more. I have been writing many Health Alert articles warning consumers and parents of the increasing concern for all the toxic chemicals we are all exposed to every day. In this regard, I came across an article about a research study that tested for man-made chemicals found in homes, offices and people and what they found may surprise you.

All Must See This Video! Amazing!

Severn Cullis-Suzuki speaking at
the University of Alberta Myer
Horowitz Theatre.

A 12 year old ordering UN delegates to stop their ignorance

Severn Suzuki, an environmental activist, speaker, television host and author, spoke in front of the UN during an Earth Summit in 1992 while she was just 12 years old. This has got to be the most amazing, saddening, yet strangely empowering video of someone speaking about environmental issues. Here is what Wikipedia says about Ms. Suzuki:

“Born in 1979 to writer and former Harvard University instructor Dr. Tara Elizabeth Cullis and famed Canadian geneticist and environmental activist Dr. David Suzuki, Cullis-Suzuki received a B. Sc. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Yale University in 2002. She has spoken around the world about environmental issues, urging listeners to define their values, act with the future in mind, and take individual responsibility.

“Google Pushes 100-mpg Car”

notible article

Snipped from CNNMoney.com.

I knew there was a reason I like those Google guys. In surfing the net every day, I find things that make me smile. This is one of those times. Google has broken the mold again. They are walking the talk with an offer in the millions for the development of a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle which are either cars or trucks that have a gasoline engine and advanced batteries that the consumer can plug into an electric outlet. With Google’s philanthropic organization, they are attempting to make a difference in proving that it can be done with a little money and ingenuity. I am thrilled that someone is taking on Detroit and who better to get out in front but Google.

Where The Candidates Stand on Energy

oil pumps
Some candidates are saying
out with the old…

It appears that the leaders of this great country have not yet caught up with “the people” in regards to some important issues. Energy is one of them. While Bush whines that America is addicted to oil, he continues his support of big oil energy policies that further entrenches our dependence on it. Without tough governmental regulation in regards to gas mileage standards and lack of support and incentives for green energy development and innovation, our addiction continues from a lack of alternatives. With specialists, scientists and others continuing to step up their warnings regarding the impending catastrophes, we need to be attentive to what each of the presidential candidate’s position is on this critical issue. So, here they are…
