Are You Being Prescribed Placebos?

notible article

Snipped from PhysOrg.com.

Short answer: maybe. It seems that physicians are not taking placebos as lightly as we once thought. The placebo effect, “a therapeutical effect based solely on the power of suggestion” that has showed up in all clinical trials and is commonly used scientifically in pharmaceutical research, is said to be used by 45% of Chicago internists when prescribing to patients.

No Neosporin, No Cough Medicine? Use Honey!

notible article

Snipped from SciAm.com.

Wow, has honey got some press to be proud of?! It seems that there really is some truth to the old wives tales that honey really is a cure all. In November, honey seemed to get some very late, but not forgotten, recognition that it can be successfully used as an antibiotic ointment for small cuts, abrasions and sores. The in December, it got the recognition for being a better nighttime cough medicine for children (older than 1 year old of course).

“Do-gooders Can Become the Worst Cheats”

notible article

Snipped from the MSNBC.MSN.com.

A “sense of moral superiority might lead to rationalizing bad behavior.” I guess that about sums it up for me. I don’t think I have much to add to that. This is a very interesting read though. Please take a moment to read over this study. It will just reenforce, in a very objective way, what you have thought about all the hypocrites that call themselves “conservatives”.

Pennsylvania: Got Milk Conspiracies?

notible article

Snipped from the SciAm.com.

If you think the government is allowing assisting corporations in keeping us ignorant and blind to what is going on behind the screen, then you may be on to something. Conspiracies theorists just may be right when they talk about the government being behind the creation of blind, brain-washed consumers.

“New Technique [to] Cheap, Abundant Hydrogen”

notible article

Snipped from News.Yahoo.com.

It has seemed that for every alternative fuel source came many drawbacks, some negating the whole reason for utilizing them. Hydrogen fuel was one of the alternative fuel sources that had much promise, but in application was not the dream it was said to be. That is, until now.

Another Reason Not to Like Mrs. Clinton

If you don’t believe us, click here to see how Hillary is Bush’s new friend. If this is true, I was right all along. Hillary is just another manipulative, lying, corrupt politician in liberal’s clothing.

“Economic Consequences of Mr. Bush”

notible article

Snipped from VanityFair.com.

I know we all know what King George has done to America (especially the economy), but just in case you needed it put in to intelligible words to fire back at some idiot that thinks he is anything more than a jackass, her is a very good article written in Vanity Fair that pretty much covers it all. A Nobel laureate, Joseph E. Stiglitz, puts into words what most of us just grunt out in a nauseating, “I am sick of even having to argue this” fashion. Unfortunately, we can’t give up, and we need to be stay abreast on what is going on, no matter how painful it is.

“Norman Mailer Brawled with Bush to the End”

notible article

Snipped from TheNation.com.

I have not heard much about the late Mr. Mailer, but one of our contributors, Stan Nodvik, notified me of this spry old man, and he seemed like my kind of guy. He was one of the few that saw the whole Bush, Iraq, fascism and school grade idiocy at the very beginning before 99% of everyone else. Unfortunately, last Sat. the 10th of Nov., Norman Mailer died at the age of 84 — another great intellectual warrior lost.

Thoughtcrime Bill Passes House

harman1020.jpg
Jane Harman, the primary
sponsor of HR1955.

Okay, this bill is quite interesting. The bill, Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 or HR 1955, is causing some uproar ‘within the know’. The mainstream media is just not covering it at all, at least from what I have seen. This bill seems pretty harmless on the surface, but at a deeper look, one may see how its ambiguity could be spun to mean anything that causes dissent from the ‘norm’. The term ‘thoughtcrime bill’ has been said quite a bit within the blogging circles, and I can see their point.
