America’s Past, Present and Future

The catalyst for irrationality.
America’s future (maybe even the world’s), in my opinion, will all boil down to who will be elected the next president of the United States.
I strongly believe the world is watching and listening to what we are going to do with this constitutionally given elective power. 2008 will most likely be the most important political year in our generation, if not in the last 100 years.
If we elect another “everyday” political hawk, democrat OR republican, we will turn down a path that will lead us to a darker and more unAmerican future, and the point of no return will probably be passed. But, If we choose one of the unlikely candidates like Kucinich, Paul or even Obama, we may be able to turn around this country, and potentially even our global image for the good.

Is the Human Out of Warranty?

Can we repair our bio-machine?
What if the human body had a warranty? Well, it may actually have one, but you are probably voiding it right at this moment. Mental stress and overly abundant food may two of the major culprits to our societies’ collective decline in health.
Ever wonder why stress is a killer, and why it plagues our civilization? What about why the foods that we crave are the worst for us? Our original blueprint for human survival may be a key to some of life’s ultimate questions. This blueprint for our bodies was designed by hundreds of thousands of years of evolution (unless you believe God created us just as we are right now, then your answer would be God didn’t think us through very well or is simply a cruel being). So we need to think back to the environment and lifestyle that triggered the evolutionary changes that made us what we are.

Do We Understand Our Teens’ Behavior?

What are we doing
to our kids?
So do we understand them? Obviously not!
What we understand as fact about our very own children may be completely wrong and not only confusing our teens, but making them worse. As a teen, you are bombarded by everything and everyone that conveys to you that you are not ready — ready to drink, ready to drive, ready to have sex, ready for responsibility, ready for life. Adults say that even though you feel you are ready, you are not, and that is just fact. So teens are caught in this limbo of life. You feel invincible, ready to take everything on and experience what life has to offer, and then bam! You are faced with extreme opposition from society — “you’re not ready!”, they say.

“… the women who are immune to Aids”

Snipped from The Observer Magazine.
With AIDS being one of the most feared diseases of the world, I am always amazed at the few people who are willing to have unprotected sex with someone who is knowingly infected. And yes, I have actually known someone to do this, and the weirdest thing about it, they are still uninfected. So what is it about these certain rare few who can come into contact with this highly contagious pandemic and not get affected by this deadly virus?

Obama and Religion

What is Omama’s stance on such a precarious issue?
Barack Hussein Obama, the Junior Senator from Illinois, is making some waves outside of the normal democratic crowd with the articulation of his deep, confident voice declaring change in the way government will be run under his presidency. He has already proven that he is willing to shut out lobbyists and special interest groups, by not only refusing to accept money from them, but also by returning it if a mistake was made. But, what about other issues? Where does he stand on religion, a long time curiosity for many people, and its involvement with government? “Is he Muslim… you know he went to a muslim school in Indonesia right? Oh my God, will we lose our Christian values?! You know his middle name is Hussein right, and his first name rhymes with Osama?!” Alright, calm down now! Don’t get all xenophobic on me. Now listen closely because this is important. What I found out about Mr. Obama is really comforting to me.

What does Yawning and Autism Have in Common?

Don’t yawn, whatever you do!
Did you yawn just looking at this picture? Why are such common everyday actions so misunderstood and mysterious to us?
Let’s start with this very common action of yawning. The original hypothesis of yawning was when the body had a build up of carbon dioxide and lack of oxygen, the brain stem would activate the yawn reflex to help normalize CO2 and O2 within the blood. This hypothesis is now deemed incorrect after a study was done by Robert R. Provine. Every explanation as to not only why we yawn, but why it seems so irresistibly contagious has been inaccurate or debunked. In lieu of these old inaccurate explanations, the scientific community has been a twitter with the latest discovery of very special cells called mirror neurons within the last decade.
