Stan Nodvik: Contributing Author

I was a kid, mad as hell, because Pennsylvania raised the fishing license fee
for the coming season. I wrote a letter to the editor of the local paper. It was
published and I went down to the corner store to buy at least ten more copies of
my masterpiece. I was hooked, line and sinker as a writer. The store clerk
wouldn’t sell me so many papers, needed them for her regular customers. Get
lost, kid!

I had my first short short story published in The Wall at Washington &
Jefferson College.

I worked for the Department of Defense for about nine years as a Computer
Specialist during the Vietnam War. And I wrote two novels (unpublished) while on
the job. I resigned in June, 1972 to write full time.

I decided to write science fiction and had one short story published. Then when
I realized I would have to read all those S.F. stores to learn what’s been
done in order to write original material, I was overwhelmed and, hey, forget
it.

I had six Adult Erotics Novels published, got paid $1,000 a ms. I spend months
on these novels, learning the novelist’s craft. This was when they were 90%
story and 10% heavy sex. One novel, because of its unique structure, called
Paddy Wagon, I am presently reworking as a play off and on the ms.
My best markets were cartoon gags. I started with 60 some tooners and now have
only 4, because the market went to hell.

I had a writing room in Northern Liberties, Philadelphia for 11 years and left
behind mss. I couldn’t sell (Computer Detective and Hitler’s Trojan Horse
and four five-foot high stacks of mss in the basement.

I had another writing room in Marlton, New Jersey at 35 Summit Court for
thirteen years. I abandoned hidden behind the plywood wall opposite the bathroom
into the attic, a workable 1970’s word processor, and mss. Other stuff. It all
should still be there. The condo is under different ownership these days.

At W&J I studied under Dr. Stein with the (then) new criticism method where
there are several levels of meaning in a literary work. If you reread my work
you will double your pleasure. Thank you for reading my work here at
blog4brains.
