An Open Letter to Barack Obama

Dear Senator Obama,
Realizing that the economy needs be bailed out is not a difficult observation, but how do we control this economic entropy without just delaying it’s inevitable implosion? It seems our economy will eventually collapse, and the most important question is how badly will the collapse be. I will not pretend to know the intricacies of how our economy operates, but I will admit this “bailout” has an appearance that is mostly geared towards benefiting conglomerate fat cats, rewarding unethical business practices, delaying the inevitable, propping up our economy for a more disastrous fall and weakening the USD even further.
I understand that if we allow these “conglomerates” to go down, the rest of us will follow as we are “all in bed together”. What I don’t understand, or at least have not heard, is how my government is working towards a policy that will not only prevent this from happening again in the future, but implementing accountability where due, and infusing oversight where the was none before.
And there lies the problem. I believe the American public does not understand what this bailout means as we have not been properly informed about the details. We are constantly told that it is a “Wall Street” bailout; it is sold as if we are just giving money to the very people that have caused this mess and letting them walk away. This misinformation is sold by both parties as well as the Media. If you want the opinion of one of your (hopefully) future constituents, then I will try to lay out what I feel is missing in our thought processes as we face one of the country’s most serious dilemmas.
What is needed is a change in the American thought process. We need to move away from overextending our credit, jumping into bloated loans and to stop enabling this overabundance mentality that is feeding our addiction to oil, material goods and bigger houses. We need to create a healthier national mindset of sustainable practices and living within our means, but this will not happen overnight and not unless we have a true leader that can reach the people.
This leader will have to be able to motivate, initiate and cultivate a new American mind. The American mind that is objective and evidence based, and focused on the long term, but this will not be easy and will take time. Unfortunately, we have been ignoring the facts for too long, yet there is no better time then now. If this is not addressed, we will continue to slide down this road no matter how much regulation there is. This is because the problem does not lie in the government, it lies within the very people it represents.
To start with, we need to replace the very people that are enabling this mess by encouraging this overabundance mentality. To do that the democrats have to stop playing the republican game, stop letting them drag us into their type of fight that they have perfected. We need to call out their lack of facts, and not move forward until it is apparent that their messages and rhetoric are nothing but lies and cheap philandering to capitalize on the ignorance of the American people. Stop defending what needs no defending. Call them out on their lies and put them on the defensive. But what ever you do, don’t bloviate and talk above the common man’s head.
I hope I am right as I believe you are this man. I have put full faith in you. Let us not go down the same road that has lost past elections — intellectual discourse that does not reach out and speak to the common man. Keep it succinct, but without room for confusion!
Sincerely,
[Cerebrl]
