Now, I received this by email, so I don’t know if this is actually true, or who the originator of this story is, but knowing the state of our education system, I don’t doubt it to be true. Anyways, this is how the email went:
Wal-Mart Employee: “Hello ‘dis Walmarts, how can I help you?”
Customer: “I would like to order a cake for a going away party this week.”
Walmart Employee: “What you want on the cake?”
Customer: “Best Wishes, Suzanne” and underneath that, “We will miss you.”

Thats gotta be a joke. I really hope thats a joke. If its not a joke then its the best going away cake ever, I mean that will be remembered, which might be more than can be said of suzanne.
You and I are on the same page. Check out my Blog periodically.
I saw an article a few days ago that makes your point.
It refers to Central Park East High School in New York and I quote a piece from the article by Andrew Kirtzman:
“Last month, Principal Bennett Lieberman sent off a stern memo to teachers.
“If you are not passing more than 65 percent of your students in a class, then you are not designing your expectations to meet their abilities, and you are setting your students up for failure, which, in turn, limits your success as a professional.”
Was he ordering teachers to dumb down their classes?
The memo continued:
“Most of our students come from the lowest third percentile in academic achievement, have difficult home lives, and struggle with life in general. They DO NOT have a similar upbringing nor a similar school experience to our experiences growing up.”

Hey John, I am sorry I haven’t commented sooner, but I got caught up with school. I just checked out your site, and it seems pretty interesting. I will keep checking back with you. Thanks for commenting and please, take a gander and some of my other stuff as I write quite a bit about science.
