“There Oughta Be A Law”

muto2.jpg
A Jimmy Halto Classic.

The following background information is from a press release sent out by California State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto). Sanator Simitian.

The Senator is holding his seventh annual “There Ought To Be A Law” contest which invites Californians to submit ideas for new state legislation. The deadline is Monday, December 3, 2007.

Since its inception, the contest has generated “proposals that are striking in their diversity,” said Senator Simitian. Eleven of those ideas have been signed into law, including most recently a law to put in place a drug “take-back” program to help ensure the proper and environmentally safe disposal of over-the-counter drugs and prescription pharmaceuticals.

Highest-Energy Rays Linked to ‘Active’ Black Holes

notible article

Snipped from the PhysOrg.com.

Here is a very cool tidbit of cosmology. Scientists have been theorizing for quite some time that nearly all galaxies contain massive black holes. Recently, they have been able to identify two types — active massive black holes and dormant or non-active black holes. While most galaxies contain the dormant black holes that are neither interesting nor entertaining, active black holes is where it’s all at.

“Norman Mailer Brawled with Bush to the End”

notible article

Snipped from TheNation.com.

I have not heard much about the late Mr. Mailer, but one of our contributors, Stan Nodvik, notified me of this spry old man, and he seemed like my kind of guy. He was one of the few that saw the whole Bush, Iraq, fascism and school grade idiocy at the very beginning before 99% of everyone else. Unfortunately, last Sat. the 10th of Nov., Norman Mailer died at the age of 84 — another great intellectual warrior lost.

Safe Toys and Safe Food Products, Finally?

recalled_toys.jpg
Health vs. Brighter Colors

Where is that final straw that breaks the camel’s back? The one incident so horrific that finally there’s a change in method and in policy? I’m talking about the situation in China and elsewhere that causes all those toys-to-toothpaste recalls. We’ve given them thirty second-chances, and still…

The latest toys recall was another Mattel recall of Fisher-Price kitchen toys. Not lead paint this time, but poorly-designed toys made in Mexico such that the parts come off for children to swallow. In response to this recall, Scott Wolfson of the Consumer Products Safety Commission said:

The Name-Game, Is It Reality?

bxp0029649_pjpg.jpg
Hi, my name is …

What’s in a name? Nothing. Nothing at all. And if you learn a thing’s name, you lose all of its thing-ness, its splendor, its mystery. It is all a matter of perception. This is my chance to play philosopher. Bear with me, and we’ll explore together.

What is reality? Again, what we perceive is what reality is, at least for us. We call a daisy a daisy and a dandelion a dandelion.

Stuck in the Muck of It All

matrix04.jpg
You are here.

So here is my question of all questions: What does one do if he is aware? If you are asking aware of what, then you must not be paying attention. Aware of everything. Political corruptness; corporate greed; American materialism; human stupidity; America’s individualism at the expense of society; RELIGION, and its pathetic followers! What if you are aware of the “Matrix” but have not been freed from it? What if everyone around you is still believing the lie and trying to pull you back in to it, time and time again?

I keep telling myself, “it is not that horrible,” and “just ignore the bad and appreciate the good.” Unfortunately, I have for some time now. For decades, if you count the BS that one has to deal with as an intellectual child in public school. And the same inane things that one deals with in grade school, just seems to get more dynamic, complex and sophisticated, but nonetheless, still the same BS just a little more fancy. So, do people grow up, ever?

Be an Expert and Gain Fame and Fortune

clp0601638_pjpg.jpg
Ready, aim …

You’re in a low-paying job, have few prospects and know there’s more to you than that job. You want a profession, a career. You want to be recognized. You want to be somebody.

What do you do? You might become an expert. An expert in what you ask. It doesn’t matter. Pick any subject, any area, any activity. Any one single thing. What you pick doesn’t necessarily have to interest you now in a great way. In time, interest will grow. You will be absorbed by what ever it is. Yes, you will.

Thoughtcrime Bill Passes House

harman1020.jpg
Jane Harman, the primary
sponsor of HR1955.

Okay, this bill is quite interesting. The bill, Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 or HR 1955, is causing some uproar ‘within the know’. The mainstream media is just not covering it at all, at least from what I have seen. This bill seems pretty harmless on the surface, but at a deeper look, one may see how its ambiguity could be spun to mean anything that causes dissent from the ‘norm’. The term ‘thoughtcrime bill’ has been said quite a bit within the blogging circles, and I can see their point.

How To Write Off Yourself In Style

72323674.jpg

If you plan to off yourself, do it in style. Do it the write way. What should your suicide note or goodbye letter contain? Should it be handwritten? Yes, you will be leaving something of yourself behind (this note) and it might as well be the most of you — a handwritten note. Will it be a suicide note or a goodbye letter? They’re basically the same, although a “goodbye letter” would be longer and would properly be enclosed in an envelope.
