Arm Them, Let Them Kill al-Qaeda and Leave

Snipped from the huffingtonpost.com.
In reviewing the news on the Huffington Post, I came across an article by Bill Maher that while it made me laugh, it probably makes more sense than all the politics in Washington put together. Bush and Co. belabor their premise that we need to fight terrorists in Iraq so that it won’t become a base for terrorism. Well, has anyone checked to see how much of the fight in Iraq is with al-Qaeda? It amazes me that it is never brought up in the news media or that no one will challenge this premise. Well, Maher brings it up and makes a great point about how the hell we can fight al-Qaeda and get out of Iraq at the same time.
Bill starts out by stating the obvious that there are bad guys out there who want to kill us, mainly al-Qaeda. But the funny thing about these al-Qaeda types is that we aren’t the only ones who want to kill them. The Sunnis in al-Anbar want to kill them because they were trying to get access to their women which the locals didn’t really appreciate. So, it wasn’t our vast military strength inherent in the so-called “surge”…it was basically because al-Qaeda was encroaching on their private possessions…their women. After putting up with this outrageous demand and all the other demands over piety and obedience to strict Shria law, the Sunnis wanted to kick them out. So, they turned to the Americans who have guns, and plenty of them.
There are also the Shias who by thousands of years of history not only hate Sunnis but now hate al-Qaeda even more. You know damn well that the Shias who are in the majority in Iraq well never stand for a base for al-Qaeda in Iraq. And, the good news–they are already armed. So, let’s make sure both camps are armed and ready to go after our mutual enemy–the terrorists responsible for 9/11. So, they fight each other in the process–so what. All we have to do is step aside and let them at each other. They’ll resolve their differencees in one way or another. Here’s what Bill had to say about it.
I just don’t know why we think we have to be the ones who kill them [al-Qaeda]. Other than because we’re Americans, and we kill things the bestest.
Yes, the uncomfortable reality of the Iraq War is that, unlike under Saddam, there really are some nutty Islamic types of the Al Qaeda variety wreaking a decent amount of havoc, even if they only constitute about 2% of the people we’re fighting there.
The good news is that we’re not the only people who want them dead. The Shiites want them dead, because al Qaeda is Sunni. The Kurds don’t want them in their territory either. And now even the Sunnis in Anbar have revolted against them.

As good as Bill Maher gets! Read his entire article. Hey, what Bill Maher suggests would made a great movie. Add an Lawrence-of-Arabia type of hero who goes in there and brings what Maher says altogether. Shoot scenes on location? I’m sure the Department of Defense will lend the movie producer/director/writer all the military equipment needed for props, including live ammunition. Who’s best for the heroine?
By Gawk! You buy the popcorn and I’ll buy the movie theater tickets.

Oh, My Gawk! Guess what? The film has already been made, in 1962, called //what else?// “Lawrence of Arabia.” With Peter O’Toole and considered one of the greatest and most influential films in the history of filmmaking. Look up Lawrence of Arabia (film) on Wikipedia for all the film’s stats.
But you knew the film was already made, didn’t you? To obtain a DVD of Lawrence of Arabia, click on the movie poster illustration (second one down) in the Blog4Brains’s article called
Priceless Knowledge: History Foretells Future for Iraq

While I completely agree with the sentiment, there has to be something said about the backwards thinking of giving weapons and support to the people we spent 5 years fighting. Saddam ran a Sunni based government that had to be toppled because of their ill intent and heinous crime. Now we are supporting them against the wishes of the government that we propped up as the democratic success?
Now they are demanding respect and a bigger piece of the pie, or else.
Yea, we, the American people, love to make things VERY complex and convoluted. Simple logic is WAY above our abilities. Thanks for commenting.
Occams Razor anyone?
And wasn’t Saddams government Baathist? We supported Iran for a while, then we supported Saddam for fighting Iran, now some people want to attack Iran for Iraq after we took out Saddam. Yet for some reason they don’t want to trust us…
Yea! Who would have thought our nations’s sociopathic tendencies in the Middle East would have any consequences later down the road? Shocking!
