The Link Between Autism and Environmental Toxins

I don’t know how many times I have watched documentaries or read articles about autism that reported that “we just don’t know what causes it”. When there exists a frightening statistic that 1 out of 150 children are being diagnosed with some type of autism today, there should be alarm bells going off. I am disgusted by our government’s current lack of attention to this urgent health care crisis. What limited research that is being done today is just beginning to unravel the mysteries of this daunting childhood affliction now termed “Autism Spectrum Disorder”. Scientists are just beginning to find out that there may be a link between autism and a number of immune and neurological disorders to environmental toxins. This would account for the wide spectrum of autism symptoms that children exhibit due to the array of molecular dialogue that occurs between our genes and the environment. This to me is pretty frightening considering the vast amount of pollution that exists in our environment. Just what exactly is going on between our genes and the never ending exposure to environmental toxins?

Blog Readers’ Top Ten Comments About Iraq War

After four years and the number of U.S. troops topping out at its highest since the start of the Iraq War which is approximately 162,000, (not counting the 100,000 or so contractors), we should be making progress right? Well, if you check in with what the blogosphere is saying and just about all of America, we are exactly nowhere. In order to test the pulse of the readers of one of my favorite blogs, thinkprogress.org, I extracted what I think are the top ten in responses to our Iraq dilemma. Some are inventive, creative and just downright funny. Check them out…

How To Escape From a Sinking Car

Snipped from slate.com.
With the horrifying thought of being trapped on a collapsing bridge over a river, I felt compelled to bring our readers something useful. And, with America’s infrastructure suffering from years of neglect from a Republican President and Congress who looks the other way when it comes to paying for stuff that really needs to be done (as opposed to a bridge to nowhere), I felt a useful “how to” would be in order. I thought I knew what to do but after reading this, I realized that there is more to this survival technique than meets the eye. So, if you find yourself in the unsavory and frightening position of being trapped in a sinking car, you may want to check out this article.

Are You Ready to Take Your Government Back?

If you have been following the national polls lately, you can see that there has been a shift in American’s opinion of party loyalty. More and more people are moving away from Democrat or Republican and toward being an Independent. Why? Because people today don’t see either party working in their interest. Both parties have proven to be strong supporters of special interests and powerful lobbying groups. If you don’t believe me, look into the weak Ethics Bill and the even weaker Earmarks Bill in which both parties had their chance for true reform. But they don’t really want reform. Everything is working out just fine with them. It’s just us damn voters that keeping screaming for change. So, the time is ripe for another populist movement. But where are the campaigners for true reform? Where is the people’s voice?

So You Think the Surge is Going Well?

Snipped from alternet.org.
What do you really think is going to happen on September 15th when Gen. Petraeus is scheduled to give his recommendations on the Iraq war and how well we are doing with the surge? Do you think the learned general will say–things aren’t going too good, perhaps we should cut and run? Uh, no. He’s a military man. His job is to win, not establish policy. But here we are with an extremely incompetent Commander-in-Chief whose job is policy but who has relinquished his role to a military man. Since when do we let the generals call the policy shots? If you are in doubt once the reports of “measured success” start coming out, then you may want to read this article and educate yourself on what’s really going on in Iraq that’s not being reported.

Scientology and Pyramid Schemes?

Snipped from slate.com.
I have to admit, I know very little about Scientology. My exposure to it was the brief rantings of Tom Cruise concerning psychotropic drugs. I guess the reason I don’t know more is because I basically don’t like religion in any form. So, I never really attempted to learn anything about it. When I caught an article on the slate.com website concerning Scientology, I clicked to find out more. Something which I had passively observed was that very rich people like Tom Cruise and John Travolta are outspoken members and that the Church of Scientology reeks of wealth. Where does the wealth come from? You may be surprised.

What Bush Doesn’t Want You To Know About Iraq

If you have been listening to the recent reports from Baghdad by those who are clearly obsessed about “victory” in Iraq, you will get the impression that things are improving. The spin on the news has been pathetically obvious to me but to millions of Americans who don’t dig deeper, Bush may be able to convince them that all is not lost. But what is really going on? What is the real truth of our successes in Iraq? There are certain key things happening in Iraq that Bush doesn’t want the American people to know because it paints a truly disastrous picture of where we are and where we will end up if we continue to stay the course. For a closer look under the covers, read on…

The Daily Show — Contempt Charges Gone Wild

Snipped from jwharrison.com
If you’re like me, you have become completely frustrated with Congress’s impotence in regards to anything that has to remotely involve doing what’s right, getting the truth or changing direction in Iraq. What we have seen lately is a huge surge but not in troops but in untruths. With Gonzo’s latest testimony in Congress, is there no end to this insult to justice? But wait, we have the Congress to right these wrongs. After all, Congress can make sure everyone tells the truth when under oath because they have the power of the “contempt” charge. As we all know, whenever someone lies under oath, the wheels of justice start turning to expose the liar and enforce accountability. So, realizing their power, Congress is filing contempt charges all over the place against the lying bastards. But wait, is Congress actually doing something? That’s not what’s really going on, is it?
