Top Ten Most Lame Reasons to Have Sex

sex.jpg

In a recent study reported by the New York Times by psychologists at the University of Texas, more than 2,000 people were asked why they had sex. In this study, they ended up with 237 reasons which were further categorized as being the most important motive for having sex. The top three were pretty predictable and included “I wanted to express my love for the person”, “I was sexually aroused” and “It’s fun.” These were pretty typical of what you would expect to find. But then there were the ones who topped out as the lamest and probably not ones you would expect that really got my attention. So without further ado, Blog4Brains proudly presents…The Top Ten Most Lame Reasons to Have Sex…

Men vs Women in the ‘Fat Wars’

obesity.jpg

With the stakes growing for both men and women in our culture in regards to the devastating impact of obesity on health, there are more and more studies concerning our obesity epidemic. In American adults obesity has doubled since 1980, and obesity in children has tripled. Correlated with these high incidences of obesity are heart disease, stroke, arthritis and some cancers. So, I guess it’s time for America to declare another war. This time America should do something really positive like recognize this dire threat in our homeland and declare a ‘War on Fat’. If we do, then how would the sexes fight this war? Would men and women fight alongside each other or end up on opposite ends of the battlefield? Just how would men and women fight the ultimate “Battle of the Bulge”?

The Crash of 1929: Are We on the Verge of a Repeat?

notible article

Snipped from alternet.org.

I’ll be the first to admit that I have failed miserably in every foray of mine into the stock market. So, for those who know how to play the game, my hat goes off to you. With the huge loss yesterday in the market, I am wondering if it doesn’t foretell a future disaster in the making. So, with all the negativity in the country from the sub-prime market and housing taking a beating, I am concerned that yesterday may be just the beginning of a true stock market disaster. So when I came across the article in alternet.org concerning a repeat of the 1929 market crash, I just had to read it. The article is extremely well written because even I was able to grasp the dire situation that our “hyper-real” stock market is in. You may find this article will help your understanding of what is really behind this new term, but old strategy, called “naked shorting” and exactly what this means to giant hedge funds of today.

Do Sex and Monogamy Go Together?

notible article

Snipped from AlterNet.org.

If you look at yourself and your life, if you’re married, would you say that marriage “seems” to be a natural thing or something imposed on you by our cultural norms? Perhaps in our current society the rules of the game have changed from our ancestors whose biggest priorities of the day were finding food and shelter. We now have a society in which food is as close as the nearest 7-Eleven and shelter is abundantly available. So where does that leave man when it comes to the reasons for pairing up and even more importantly, staying together?

Al Jazeera: Radical Muslim Media or Truth?

mission.gif

While watching the Daily Show last week, I caught an interview of Josh Rushing who really made me stop and think about how quick we are to judge things in America. I had heard of the al Jazeera news broadcasting al Qaeda tapes and thought that they were merely an arm of the terrorist group. Funny how when anything is associated with an Arab name, we immediately think of terrorism. It just goes to show how far we have to go in our education and acceptance of global cultures. I guess it’s because as Americans we are fairly isolated from the rest of the world. In Europe you go 100 miles and you’re in another country and culture. So what caught my attention with this particular interview?

Real People: YouTube Debate

notible article

Snipped from slate.com.

I don’t know if you caught the YouTube Democratic presidential debate last night but for once a national debate actually had some real people in it. Thanks to the genius of YouTube. I found it to be absolutely refreshing compared to the slick, stylized questions asked by seasoned journalists and political pundits. This was the first entrance of true citizenry participation on a large scale. I hope there were many watching because it was worth the time spent. Some questions were silly, some provocative and some just downright good from the series of homemade videos filmed from people’s back yards, living rooms and just about anywhere else you can think of. You may find some went a little too far but at least, they were real. The following is a sampling of some of the stand-outs.

Tribalism: Alive and Well in Iraq and the U.S.

ImageCongress.jpg
Modern tribes in our Congress.

I was reading the letters to the editor in my local paper this morning when I came across someone who was expressing their views regarding how America has changed. When our forefathers conceived of democracy, they were obsessed, and rightly so, with assuring that checks and balances in the government were strong. And, along with their idea of democracy, as a representative government, the will of the American people would be represented by an elected Congress and president. After all, these were the people who chanted “No taxation without representation”. So you can be sure that they knew full well what the importance of concepts of liberty and freedom meant in their budding new democracy. However, as brilliant as our forefathers were, they could not have possibly foreseen the “For Sale” sign on congressional leaders doors or the bitter partisan disputes that can only be likened to “tribalism”. We criticize Iraq for their hostile sectarian disputes ignoring the unity that is called Iraq, while our own Congress battles along partisan lines with complete disregard for the unity that is called America. Are we no different than the very enemies that we despise?

Defund the Iraq War — Not So Fast!

notible article

Snipped from dailykos.com

For any of you out there (like over two-thirds of the American public) who want to see the war in Iraq end, you are probably thinking that the Democrats can always defund the war. I mean, after all, this is a Constitutional power that Congress has and should use to stop a war-mongering President who is out of control. But not so fast! Can Congress really stop a President who has already proven that he will stop at nothing to get his way? I ran across an article that mentions a fairly obscure paragraph from a report by the Congressional Research Service entitled, “A Defense Budget Primer” that may mean that Bush can still get his way even if Congress takes his money away. You will be surprised at just how much power the President really has, especially in light of “national security interests”.

Iraq War Dreams

notible article

Snipped from dailykos.com.

How is it that Republican congressional leaders can visit Iraq and come back still supporting Bush’s “splurge”? Just when you think you have had enough of the blind loyalty to a failed policy, another congressional leader comes back spouting optimism about the obviously dismal and deteriorating conditions in Iraq. Now it’s Rep. Michele Bachmann’s turn down the rabbit hole and she says that Bush just needs more time. What I don’t understand about this dreamland of the Republicans is that we have been through this before. This is not the first surge in troop level we have seen in Iraq over the last 5 years. What makes them think it will finally work this time? When you hear about what Bachmann’s “little” visit was like, you too will be amazed at the obvious mind-control that Bush has over his Republican cohorts.

Delusional President Ignoring Failed al Qaeda Fight

notible article

Snipped from AmericaBlog.com.

If you’re like me and you see an intelligence report that represents the consensus view of all 16 agencies that make up the American intelligence community, you have a tendency to pay attention. While Bush steadfastly and stubbornly pushes the Iraq War as the central front on the fight against terrorism, he refuses to accept his own intelligence agencies’ report that the real fight against the “real” al Qaeda (yeah, the ones who did attack us on 9/11) is a complete failure. And what even amazes me more is that the press is not calling him on this. What has happened to the backbone of our formerly stalwart journalists whose job it is to ferret out the truth and champion accountability as they have done so many times in the past? Where are our champions today?
