How Well Do You Know Your Candidates?

Ah, damn it!
Okay, so you’ve been a good American citizen and have listened to all the presidential debates so that you will be an informed voter. So, do you think you know your candidates? You may be surprised that it may be very difficult to differentiate between them. Why? Because they use “poli-speak” (a term I coined). This means that they speak a political language in which they don’t actually say anything. In order to test your candidate savy, I have provided quotes below taken from speeches that the candidates have made. It will be up to you to match the quote(s) with the candidate. Good luck.

As you can see from the language of “polispeak”, not much is being said. So, it certainly is difficult to determine which candidate is which. In a later post, I will give you the names of the candidates that match each quote. There is a trend with one particular candidate concerning a monopoly on “poli-speak”, can you guess which one?

Interesting quiz. But none of the quotes mention security and the need to protect us from the invasion of– and from terrorists within our country. Does Bush have a copyright on that promise? Or was it made in polispeak by one of the candidates and left out of the quiz?
Good question. These quotes are examples of how politicians have a tendency not to say anything. There were candidates speaking out about security and terrorism but they were mainly Republicans and they were examples of more fear-mongering than poli-speak.
I guess the quotes kind of fall into two categories — poli-speak and fear-mongering.
Rudy Giuliani or Vampire Ghouliani?
