“…grounds for claim of atheism firing”

notible article

Snipped from Boston.com.

I don’t know what makes me angrier, fanatical religious believers themselves or when the lack of belief within someone else incites bigotry towards that individual. I thought we came over here from England to escape religious persecution? Or was it to decimate an entire race of indigenous people in the name of God? I can never remember which it was. Well anyways, I ran across this article, and it made me want to vomit. Here we have someone that got fired after the employer found out he was an atheist.

This just reminded me of when one of the Republican candidates, I think Thompson, was asked if an employer should be able to fire individuals because they are homosexual. The candidate said it should be left up to the businesses if they want to fire individuals due to their sexual orientation. I thought “We the people…” stood for all Americans, not just the straight WASP’s, or was I wrong? Is America going to continue allowing these types of mistreatment, bigotry and oppression? It’s funny how we are being left behind by other countries in how we treat our citizens.

Here is a portion of the article that reads how an atheist was fired due to his “Godlessness”.

Cantwell, who was provided housing he shared with a non-married partner, two of his children and three of her children, said he was criticized by DeCoster, a devout Christian, who didn’t approve of the living arrangement.

On another occasion, DeCoster brought up God in a conversation, and Cantwell responded by saying he was an atheist and didn’t believe in God.

Cantwell told the investigator that DeCoster put his hand on his shoulder and told him: “I can’t have someone like you here. We might need to part ways.”

unfortunately “we the people” did mean men who owned property. I’m in agreement with the rest, actually I’m never quite sure how I feel about saying what a private company can and cannot do. I mean a business owner has rights too. They can have dress codes and what not. I guess if it was like a christian book store or something then they might have a point. But in general yeah discrimination is wrong you can’t hire or fire someone based on age, sex, race, sexual orientation, or religion. But oddly enough you can hire or fire people based on looks alone, at least at a strip club, or model agency, or a brothel, or hooters…
