Top Five Strange Judicial Oddities

flaggavel.jpgStaying true to our mission of informing the public and now that the scandals are erupting almost daily regarding our fine judicial branch and its perpetrators, I would like to point out some strange, and basically not commonly known, oddities of this most illustrious branch of government. For the sake of brevity for which the judicial system is not known for because lawyers are involved, I have condensed these oddities into the top five. They are…

5. At the top of the judicial branch is the Supreme Court which represents those who interpret our sacred rights as spelled out in our Constitution. However, this small group of nine people are not elected by us, the people, but instead are appointed by the President which basically means the one criteria that ensures them a position on the bench is that their political beliefs are identical to the man who appointed them, not representative of the citizens they serve.

4. On top of this, this highly selective and personalized parrot of the President, receives a lifetime appointment. That means that they can only be removed by their own old age and feebleness in which in most cases it means until, and not until, they can no longer even muster up enough energy to put their robe on.

3. The beautiful symbol of justice, as we all know, is the goddess from Greek and Roman mythologies in which her blindfold is evidence of her unquestioned objectivity and gives rise to the phrase “justice is blind”. But interestingly enough with the three depictions of Lady Justice in the Supreme Court building, two wear blindfolds while the third, in the courtroom, does not. Hmmmmm…

2. We have to remember the important work of the judicial system. This important work involves your morning hardcore pornography session, your lunchtime abortion, and right up to your evening flag burning. And, it’s comforting to know that your judicial system is there, all the while, to make sure that everything that you say and do, can and will be used against you in a court of law.

1. The last and most important oddity of the judicial system has been recently uncovered in the past week to most of us unbeknowing (is that a real word?) citizens. This has to do with the shocking fact that the President also appoints all 93 U.S. attorneys to “serve at his pleasure” which has come to mean in the Bush administration, kicking Democrats’ asses.

I hope that the above has served you well in your continuing journey of exploration and education that find here at Blog4brains. I only hope that we have contributed in some small way to this endeavor. As you know, we will continue with our mission to inform, educate and entertain. For the sake of clarification, I want you to know that this article was a humble attempt at all three. Thanks for sticking in there to the end and see you next time.

  • Hey thanks for all the tips on the political blogs regarding our outrageous judicial system. I have checked out truthdig but I haven't Greenwald. So, I'll check them out also.

There really are some very good journalistic expressions on some of the political blogs. I enjoy checking out what's going on in the world from others' perspective. I usually check out the Huffington Post every morning. Then there's Crooks and Liars which is always a hoot.

What I can't believe is how political everything has gotten with the Bushies. I know that anyone who wanted a contracting job in Iraq had to reveal their republican loyalty and even their views on abortion and religion. It's disgusting.

I simply cannot wait until they are out of power. I am just counting on the fact that the Neo-cons will continue to screw things up and by 2008, they will be history. I am also counting on the Democrats not screwing things up either which may be a long shot.

Thanks again for the comment. And, I'll continually be watching Twig for his next abomination.
  • Hehehe... If you're looking legal atrocities, hope you have a few good stiff drinks while you're reading. Hit the law blawgs. I'll have the links on my site up soon (I hope). And although some come through with decent stuff regularly, a lot of whiny twits out there.

Judicial problems in this country are really bad. I'm thankful Ron Branson at Jail4Judges has them starting to get worried. Really worried! Serves them right. The attorneys too.

As for firing U.S. attorneys, it's a given that many new Administrations will clear out the U.S. Attorneys and put their own in office. The faces may change, but the procedures generally remain. What the Twig did was different though. That's why the uproar. I think Glenn Greenwald explained it best in one of his columns last week.

Without crossing into Greenwald's educated explanation though, the Twig was openly political with his firings, and several were openly retaliatory because while the attorneys were going after criminals regardless of politics, the Twig administration wanted them to leave the R- criminals alone. That's one thing they were doing. Also, the ones who weren't using the prosecutor's office to go at D-'s just before election were tossed out too. That's not law, that's politics. To make an allegation just before election (true or not) can influence an election. "Insider trading" so to speak, which I'm sure the Twig and his Bushies have done a lot of anyway.

Truthdig and Greenwald are probably the best sources to follow on this subject. I think there's another one, but can't recall it.

Just remember, if the Twig is doing it at that level, you can bet it's at every level in government. Most people just haven't seen it yet.
