Capital Punishment: Right or Wrong? — Warning: Explicit Content
I came across an article in the morning newspaper that reported that twelve Dallas County men have had their convictions overturned by DNA testing since 2001. What struck me about this is that these twelve men could have been put to death for a crime they did not commit. And, this is only in one county in Texas. How many more are out there across the nation? What this shameful statistic illustrates is that errors can and will be made in prosecuting high profile murder cases. There is one case in particular that really got my attention. You won’t believe what happened to this man.

Can You Hear Your Eyeballs Move?
This may seem like a question for a riddle or utter non-sense, but there are sufferers of an odd syndrome caused by serotonin and a little part of your brain called the nucleus accumbens. In Scientific American Mar. ‘07, there is a story of a neuroscientist that suffered from a horrid grating noise coming from his eyeballs while he tries to fall asleep.
Now before you start reading on, I want you to keep this thought in the back of your head: “Do you perceive the world around you as it really is, or just as your brain wants to interpret it?” Hopefully I have not lost you by now, but keep up as this gets interesting.

Legal Battle Between Bush and Congress Brewing
With the passage of the House’s Non-Binding Resolution Opposing the Troop Surge but failing in the Senate, there is word that the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense Chairman, John Murtha, is artfully rewording the $93.4 Million emergency combat funds request. Murtha is not defunding the war, but is attaching conditions to it. Such as, 12 months rest before being redeployed to Iraq, certified combat-ready before being deployed and that no permanent military bases established in Iraq, among a few other things. What, in effect, this will do is stop the escalation in the war due to the restrictions of troop cycling to the field. As per a Washington Post article, “this will effectively encroach on the president’s constitutional powers as commander in chief to control tactics and operations”. The next question is…what will Bush do?

Top Ten Reasons Why Republicans Suck!
This is my list of reasons why Republicans just plain suck. I have a deep seated disgust with what is happening to America and, in particular, who is blocking Congress and this nation from moving forward. Who am I referring to? You guessed it — the ‘Neo-con’ men, or so called Republican Party. This is just my way of releasing the blow-off valve, so watch out for the burns!
10. The covering of Lady Justice by Asscroft… yes, I said Asscroft!

Illegal Immigrants: Should They Have Rights?
It’s time to revisit the illegal immigration subject. In Texas, the state legislature is considering several new bills to counter the effects of illegal immigration in a state with porous borders and little help from the federal government. The most controversial bill to date is House Bill 28 which would deny state services to U.S. born children of illegal immigrants. The author of the bill realizes how it will challenge the 14th Amendment that provides birthright citizenship. But he is hoping that it will become a test for the U.S. Supreme Court to interpret illegal immigrants rights. My question is, since when did people who break the law and enter the country illegally deserve the same rights as those of us who are legal American citizens?

Irshad Manji: Islam’s Chance for Peace
Every time I see Muslims praying with their heads to the dirt and their butts in the air, I can’t help but think of this symbolic posture as that of complete submission. Think about it — in that particular position, one is completely vulnerable and exposed. Do you think religion, in and of itself, devises these symbols of submission randomly? I think not. Religion once again raises its ugly head above the pious pretentiousness of required reverance and dutiful submission and wields it power over its believers. It has turned ordinary people into supplicating robots who cannot possibly think for themselves.

Top Eight Things With The Same Approval Rating as Bush!
We all know from a CBS News Poll that the President’s overall approval rating has been at an all-time low of 28 percent (near the lowest number in history which was Nixon at 24 percent). We know this of course, because we are the ones being polled. We don’t need someone to tell us how we feel about something. But I guess these pollster guys have to have something to do. So, when it comes to President Bush, we all know how much this guys sucks. Well, thanks to new data that reveals the popularity of other things in our world, it’s time to see how Bush stacks up against this list.
Stop Playing Victim and Stand Up to Bush!
I just about had it today with our imperial president upon reading an editorial in the Austin American Statesman newspaper that quoted what my Representative in Congress, John Carter, had to say about the Non-binding House Resolution against the troop surge. I was so upset that I wrote a letter to this Congressman expressing what I, as a constituent of his, think of his comments. I have included it in this article if you would like to read it. It’s a little hostile but at least its straight talk which is in short supply nowadays.
