This is my list of reasons why Republicans just plain suck. I have a deep seated disgust with what is happening to America and, in particular, who is blocking Congress and this nation from moving forward. Who am I referring to? You guessed it — the ‘Neo-con’ men, or so called Republican Party. This is just my way of releasing the blow-off valve, so watch out for the burns!
10. The covering of Lady Justice by Asscroft… yes, I said Asscroft!
No longer will US Attorney General John Ashcroft appear in public with a semi-nude statue towering above him.
The US Justice Department has spent $8,000 on curtains to hide the statue from the cameras. - BBC News.com
9. Global Warming… ha… shut up and enjoy the warmer weather!
“As Gore promotes global-warming movie, College Republicans ridicule the movie with Global Warming Beach Parties…”
Republicans run a “Global Cooling” Snow Cone Stand.
The Oklahoma University College Republicans gave out free snow cones to students for an event they called “Global Cooling Day.” - Wall Street Journal
8. No Accountability
Secret prisons, fake intelligence of non-existent WMDs, overseas kidnapping charges against secret CIA agents, torturing of innocent people, shooting people in the face… um… (it’s top secret, so I can’t talk about it).
7. UN? Oh, United Nations? Who are they to tell us what to do!
The Institute for Policy Studies published a report analyzing what it called the “arm-twisting offensive” by the United States government to get nations to support it. Although President Bush described nations supporting him as the “coalition of the willing”, the report concluded that it was more accurately described as a “coalition of the coerced.” According to the report, most nations supporting Bush “were recruited through coercion, bullying, and bribery.” - Wikipedia.com
6. Abolishment of Human Rights — Torture? We don’t torture, its just debriefing!
The practice [waterboarding*] garnered renewed attention and notoriety in September 2006, when reports charged that the Bush administration had authorized its use in the interrogations of U.S. War on Terrorism detainees. Though the Bush administration has never formally acknowledged its use, Vice President Dick Cheney told an interviewer that he did not believe “a dunk in water” to be a form of torture but rather a “very important tool” for use in interrogations… - Wikipedia.com
*Waterboarding: a torture technique that consists of immobilizing an individual and pouring water over his face to simulate drowning, which produces a severe gag reflex, making the subject believe his death is imminent while ideally not causing permanent physical damage.- Wikipedia.com
5. Commercialism and materialism
The U.S. debt is soaring, our trade deficit is mounting, we are at war for “cooked up” reasons, soldiers are dying, the whole world hates the US, and what does the Bush Administration recommend? Go shopping, it’s therapeutic. Here is the actual transcript from one of his speeches: “As we work with Congress in the coming year to chart a new course in Iraq and strengthen our military to meet the challenges of the 21st century, we must also work together to achieve important goals for the American people here at home. This work begins with keeping our economy growing. … And I encourage you all to go shopping more. - thinkprogress.com”
4. Dick Cheney, the man, the mystery, the devil.
Multiple DWI arrests, the good old Halliburton relationship (2005, Cheney’s reported gross income: $8.82 million), hand in helping “cook” the Niger and Iraq uranium lie, starting the Iraq War, CIA leaks and the Scooter Libby Trial, shooting people in the face and getting away with no consequences and, daughter, I don’t have a daughter — gay people are evil!
And when asked about the criticism of him and the administration in how to move forward in the Iraq war…”I’m the Vice President and they’re not.”
3. The whole world hates us!
Nearly two-thirds of respondents to an international poll for the BBC say they have an unfavorable opinion of George W. Bush.
[When] Asked who is the more dangerous to world peace and stability, the United States was rated higher than al-Qaeda by respondents in both Jordan (71%) and Indonesia (66%).
America was also rated more dangerous than two countries considered as “rogue states” by Washington.
It [America] was rated more dangerous than Iran, by people in Jordan, Indonesia, Russia, South Korea and Brazil, and more dangerous than Syria by respondents in all the countries, except for Australia, Israel and the United States.
2. The Iraq War
Iraq war time line: Investigate Iraq over misinformation concerning WMDs, no WMDs found, 11 out of 19 UN countries are arguing against US waging war on Iraq, US coerces 4 countries to support the war calling it the “Coalition of the Willing”, War started on Iraq, Saddam taken out, Mission Accomplished on aircraft carrier, Iraq insurgency expands, US occupation government installed, increasing instability and renewed fighting, Al-Askari shrine bombing and Sunni-Shia fighting, outbreak of civil war, permanent Iraqi Government takes power, increased sectarian violence, Iraq Study Group report finished then ignored and Saddam’s shoddy, shameful execution and now 5 years later and an estimated 654,965 total casualties, we have what? A less stable Middle East!
1. Our wasted economy!
“As of September 29, 2006, over $379 Billion dollars has been allocated by the U.S. Congress for the Iraq war. Over $360 Billion* has been spent as of January 22, 2007. - Wikipedia.com” The forecast for the total spending for this war may top out at as high as $2 Trillion dollars before it’s all said and done.
With the Neo-cons’ focus on the military industrial complex and big corporate interests, there is an ever expanding wedge between the rich and the poor. While Republicans promote huge military budgets and big corporate interests, oil profits soar, CEO salaries surge, corporate conglomerates proliferate, and all the while there is a war being waged on the middle class. The results are that locally owned businesses are faltering, average wages are declining, health benefits are disappearing, pension plans are being stolen, the environment is being raped…and the list goes on.
